Tem esse nome porque \u201cmanac\u00e1\u201d deriva do tupi-guarani e significa \u201cflor\u201d, enquanto \u201cda-serra\u201d se refere a Serra do mar, o local do pa\u00eds onde a esp\u00e9cie tem maior ocorr\u00eancia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seu nome cient\u00edfico, conhecido mundialmente, \u00e9 <em>Pleroma mutabile <\/em>(Vell.) Triana.O verbete \u201cmutabile\u201d significa mut\u00e1vel, se referindo \u00e0s flores que mudam de cor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pertence \u00e0 fam\u00edlia bot\u00e2nica Melastomataceae, a mesma das quaresmeiras, e quando adulto, pode atingir de 6 a 12 metros de altura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c9 nativo do Brasil (Mata Atl\u00e2ntica) e est\u00e1 muito presente na arboriza\u00e7\u00e3o de pra\u00e7as e parques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esta \u00e1rvore aprecia locais com alta taxa de umidade no ar e solos ricos em mat\u00e9ria org\u00e2nica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Possui atributos ornamentais que chamam muita aten\u00e7\u00e3o: as cores das suas flores, que ao desabrocharem s\u00e3o brancas, tornam-se lilases e finalmente roxo-escuras, aparecendo de novembro a fevereiro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Os frutos, pequenas c\u00e1psulas contendo diminutas sementes, surgem de fevereiro a mar\u00e7o, liberando as sementes pela a\u00e7\u00e3o do vento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muitos animais urbanos a utilizam como abrigo e
